Ticks are Arachnids like scorpions and spiders.  They are flat and oval shaped being yellowish in appearance and become darker when engorged from a host's blood.  Ticks wait for host animals on the tips of grass and shrubs. When brushed by a moving animal or person, they quickly let go of the vegetation and climb onto the host.  Ticks can only crawl they do not jump or fly.  They attach firmly when sucking blood, feeding slowly and may go unnoticed for a considerable period of time.  A Tick can take several days to complete feeding and is associated with a number of diseases.
