Fleas are highly specialised bloodsucking parasites belonging to the order of insects called Siphonaptera, which means "wingless siphon".   They are 1.5 - 3.3mm long, usually dark in colour with long legs well adapted for jumping and tube like mouth parts for feeding on the blood of their hosts which include humans, dogs and cats.

Fleas are known for their irritation and pest status worldwide.  With their ability to transfer between a variety of hosts allows for the possible transfer of pathogens including viral, bacterial and parasitic diseases.
